APPROVAL OF THE CHIPRA GRANT SOLICITATION FOR OUTREACH AND ENROLLMENT OF AMERICAN INDIAN AND ALASKA NATIVE CHILDREN
The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Reauthorization Act (CHIPRA) provides $10 million for fiscal years 2009-2013 for the purpose of enrolling Indian children who are eligible, but not enrolled, in the Medicaid and CHIP programs; and to ensuring continuous health care coverage by retaining these children in the Medicaid and CHIP programs as long as they remain eligible.
This $10 million will be awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to Indian health providers to reduce the number of uninsured, low-income children in the United States through the enrollment and retention of eligible American Indian and Alaska Native children in Medicaid and CHIP.
Funding will be awarded for implementation of projects that are evaluated as having the greatest likelihood of success in increasing program enrollment and retention and individual award amounts will be based on the merits of the application.
The solicitation was issued November 19, 2009 and applications are due by January 15, 2010.
